T-Mobile G1 With Google

t-mobile_g1-400x326After few months of use I finally decided to write small review for T-Mobile G1. This is my first phone based on Google's Android platform and I must say it's cool. For some of you this phone could be bulky, or not so stylish, but not for me. I like the way it sets in my hands, I can even type on sliding QWERTY keyboard with one hand. I had iPhone for some time and all I can say is it's a great phone but I still needed bigger QWERTY keyboard on my phone. If I want to write a short message touch screen is fine, but  if you want to write a letter, large keyboard is a must for me. But, nice big keyboard was not the main reason for me to keep this phone for a while. It was Android free software community and  Android operating system itself. You can install and un-install software with one click, and the best thing - it's free!

G1 is running on Qualcomm® MSM7201A™, 528 MHz processor with 256 ROM and 192MB RAM memory. You can install additional memory card in microSD™ memory card expansion slot for your music, images and Internet downloads. It has solid 3.2 megapixel color camera with auto focus and 3.2-inch TFT-LCD flat touch-sensitive screen with 320 x 480 (HVGA) resolution. HD YouTube movies are great on this phone. With 3G data plan you can use this phone just like you're using your laptop. The only bad thing is battery, if all phone functions are turned on (GPS, 3G, WiFi), your battery will drain fast but you can charge it quickly. Phone has Trackball with Enter button which will help you with browsing because sometimes you need to click on small text / link and finger is hm-mm....

If you're a G-mail user, this could be perfect phone for you. All you need to do is to enter your email address and password on your new G1 and you're ready to go. Your email, calendar, docs, photos, blogger, reader, everything is one click away. The best part is integration of Google maps, viewing it's very similar to your desktop experience. You can even switch to Satellite, Traffic and Street View, and while you looking with Street View, you can turn on Compass mode! This is great, I don't need to ask anybody for directions, all I need is 3G connection and I'll never be lost again. Google search field is placed on your home screen, you can search the Internet in one click. And, if you're YouTube addict, new videos are just a click away, HD is excellent on this huge screen.

t-mobile-g1-usa-t-mobile-1I was a Windows Mobile user from the beginning, and I had iPhone for some time so I didn't find all those options and features so much new and very interesting. What was very interesting to me is a huge software Market, you can find many useful applications and they're free. Everything is simplified, click on Market icon and select category. Choose your game or application and install it with one click. Test it, and if you don't like it, un-install it with one click. Let's say you want virtual keyboard. G1 doesn't have virtual keyboard but you can install it with additional software. If you need a good weather application, it's just a click away, even with videos. So, what possibly could be the reason for you not to buy G1?

If you hate Google or if you're using Office docs a lot, G1 is not yet right phone choice for you. If you don't type a lot and you're not using Internet on the phone, you don't need a G1. And, if the phone design is most important to you, maybe G1 could look huge to you. But, if you're looking for a good Internet smartphone with simple user interface, G1 is on of the best in the moment. It's not to expensive, under $200 on contract and you can buy it on eBay for less than $300 right now. It's a phone, Internet device, Maps, Compass, Camera, Music and Video player and who knows else...
